The 4th grade unit takes place in April and May. We are using the Museum of Science in Boston's Engineering is Elementary (EIE) program "Now You're Cooking: Designing Solar Ovens" as the building block for this unit. The EIE portion meets the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) of 4-PS3-2 and 4-PS3-4. Our Ecosystem Partner is the Tulsa Geoscience Center. At the beginning of the unit, students are posed the challenge of designing a solar oven. Then students visit the Tulsa Geoscience Center to gain background knowledge about energy transformations of all types. Back in the classroom, students prototype, test, and redesign solar ovens.
Other details related to this experience are still under development.
